Little by Little or All at Once?
There are some people who advocate ripping a Band-Aid off quickly to get the ordeal over with, and others would prefer to peel it off slowly. The same can be said about renovating a house: Do you renovate it all at once or take it one project at a time?
There are pros and cons to both.
If you renovate multiple projects concurrently the disruption to daily life can be extensive, but you'll get back to normal more quickly and start enjoying your new house sooner. Yet, depending on the renovations being done, it could be impossible to live in your house for the duration of construction and you'd be compelled to find alternate living arrangements.
Renovating project by project can be easier to handle financially and allows you to budget the projects over several years. You can usually continue to live in your house, but it means there will be constant upheaval, albeit limited to certain areas. Still, some people think taking it slowly makes for a better result because you live with the house and the renovations can better accommodate your lifestyle.
Wheatley Associates has been renovating homes for nearly 30 years and has seen it done successfully both ways. Call or email us for our insight into the pros and cons and how people respond differently to renovation projects.
